What is PROMPT?
PROMPT is an acronym that stands for PROMPTS for restructuring oral muscular phonetic targets.
PROMPT is an evidence-based, multimodal approach that involves tactile-kinesthetic input to facilitate correct speech production. It incorporates the physical-sensory domain, cognitive-linguistic domain, and the social-emotional domain. By integrating multiple aspects of a person’s system, PROMPT offers a holistic approach to improving functional communication. PROMPT can be utilized with people ages 6 months through adulthood. It is most commonly implemented with children and adults with a diagnosis of apraxia of speech, but is also a useful tool for a variety of other speech sound disorders.
